Armagh City and District Council commissioned Ferguson McIlveen Architects to prepare proposals for a Country Park back in 1991. Phase one was completed during 1996 and included a football pitch with changing pavilion and a children’s play area. Phase two includes an 18 hole golf course, 37 acre coarse fishery, bridle path, locker/changing pavilion and various country walks in the estate. Country Walks include The Orchard Walk 3 km and Lakeside Walk 2 km, these are waymarked and provide beautiful routes through the woodland and countryside. There is a children’s outdoor play area as well as a football area, picnic tables and seating is provided at various areas within the Country Park. A public car park is also provided at a small fee. Golf Course Measured at 5,969 yards this 18 hole par 72 course provides a challenge for all levels of golfer. The course is set in mature woodland, strategically placed bunkers, sloping terrain and water hazards all add to the character of the course. There are daily rates as well as yearly subscription for adults, children and families. The on site shop sells all consumables as well as trolley hire and equipment. Coarse Fishery Armagh City and District Council undertook the management of the fishery from Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure under a lease agreement. Grant funding was received from DARD in 2001 for the erection of 30 fishing stands. Further development work has just been completed with the erection of an additional 70 stands and improved road access. This development was made possible through grant funding obtained from DCAL through the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation. The Coarse Fishery contains Bream, Perch, Roach, Tench, Eels, Carp and Pike. Notable catches include Carp 21 lb, Pike 26lb, Tench 6lb and Perch 3.5lb. Anyone fishing must have a Coarse Fishing license (This can be purchased on site) before purchasing a daily ticket or a yearly subscription. All fish caught must be returned to the water unharmed. The on site shop has tackle, bait, groundbait and deadbait for Pike. Equipment can also be hired. Bridle Path The bridle path is available to those who wish to exercise their horse or pony. The path is approximately 6 km and meanders through mature woodland and open countryside. The cost is £6.50 per day or a yearly pass costs £50.00 – a horsebox park is also available. For further information contact Reception on 028 3889 2900 FOLLY GLEN Located approx half a mile from Armagh City Centre Folly Glen extends from the Newry Road at one end to the Hamiltonsbawn road at the other end. Part of the sustrans cycle roure passes through the Glen and there is a circular route which can be used for walking. The Glen contains many mature trees and the Folly river runs along its length. CLARE GLEN Clare Glen is located next to Clare Glen Caravan site near Tandragee. It comprises of car parks at both ends,one of which provides toilet facilities. Picnic tables are provided and there are walking routes within the Glen. | |
KEADY GLEN This river walk links the Old Mill, Keady to the viaduct at Glen Road. The Council, in association with the local community are currently carrying out a Environmental Regeneration Scheme to restore the area. |
