The Orchard Swim School offers expert swimming tuition to children aged 5 and over. The programme, taught by fully qualified Swim Teachers, allows children to develop their skills and improve their confidence in a variety of strokes. Once children are enrolled into Orchard Swim School we guarantee their place in each set of lessons from beginner (Duckling 1) to advanced (Gold).

Enrolment into the Orchard Swim School is open on a number of occasions throughout the year.

Swimming lesson progression… What is required to progress to the next level of lesson?

Learner Pool

Duckling 1
Climb into pool safely
Walk across pool unaided
Submerge mouth and nose to blow bubbles
Remove armbands
Using 2 floats kick feet on front
Using 2 floats kick feet on back

Duckling 2
Entry water without using steps
Head under water blowing bubbles
Use 1 float confidently on front kicking feet
Use 1 float confidently on back kicking feet
Star float on front and back
Swim unaided 2-5m on front and back

Otter 1
Jump into pool safely
Fully submerge and blow bubbles
Swim 10m on front. Using arms and proper breathing
Swim 10m on back. Using arms
Pick brick up from bottom

Main Pool

Otter 2
Pencil dive at deep end
25m on front with head down and proper breathing
25m on back using arms
Tread water for 30 seconds
Pick brick up at 4ft

Dolphin 1
Sit down dive
Swim 2 lengths continuously 25m front crawl with head down and proper breathing & 25m back crawl using arms
Demonstrate breaststroke legs
Tread water for 1 minute
Scull head first
Pick brick up at 5ft

Dolphin 2
Kneel down dive
Swim 4 lengths continuously 50m front crawl with head down and proper breathing & 50m back crawl using arms
25m breaststroke
Tread water for 2 minute
Scull head and feet first
Pick brick up at 6ft

Challenges

Flipper
Swim 50m in clothes
Swim 200m
Pick up brick at 5ft and carry to shallow end
Swim 3m under water
Straddle jump

Bronze
Swim 400m
Scull 25m head first and 25m feet first
Tread water 3minutes
Swim 5m under water
50m in 90 seconds

Silver
Swim 600m
Scull head first turn half way to finish feet first
Swim 10m lift 2 bricks and swim on
50m in 60 seconds
Tread water for 1 minute with one hand on head.

Gold
Swim 800m
Swim 10m forward roll and swim on
100m in 2 ½ minutes
Tread water for 2 minutes hands above head for 30seconds
